Ultrasonic cutting vs. other cutting

Other traditional cutting:

Traditional cutting uses a tool with a sharp blade to concentrate a very large pressure on the blade and press it against the material to be cut. When the pressure exceeds the shear strength of the material to be cut, the molecular bond of the material is pulled apart, thereby achieving cutting. Since the material is pulled apart by strong pressure, the blade of the cutting tool must be very sharp, and the material itself must withstand relatively large pressure. Therefore, the cutting effect on soft and elastic materials is not good, and it is even more difficult for sticky materials.

Common problems with traditional cutting:

  1. A sharp blade is required, which increases the requirements for the blade;
  2. The edge of the cut cloth cannot be sealed, and the cutting edge is prone to edge collapse and damage;
  3. Sticky objects are not easy to cut and are easy to stick to the knife, affecting the cutting effect and efficiency;
  4. Pressure needs to be applied to the object during cutting, which can easily deform soft or fragile food;
  5. When cutting some items, a large number of particles and fragments will be generated, increasing waste.

Ultrasonic cutting technology:

Ultrasonic cutting employs ultrasound energy to locally heat materials being cut, thus accomplishing their cutting purpose. Due to ultrasonic vibration of a cutting knife, friction resistance is very small, meaning material does not adhere easily to blade. Ultrasonic cutting can also be used with sticky materials like food and rubber that do not pressurize easily as well as objects difficult to pressurize by conventional pressure methods.
